2nd Quarter of 1989
This item is in Mint Condition. A special edition for Puma by Arno Hopp, a well know Scrimshaw Artist who did most of the scrim work for Puma in the 1980s and 90s. This knife commemorates the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The series was released in 1992 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of that event. There were only 50 of these produced by Hopp. This one has a very low serial number of #4. Mr. Hopp has said it took 2 weeks to create each knife. It marked the introduction of a special process of color in the scrimshaw work. Instead of one color ink, each figure was given colorful clothing, marking a first in the art of scrimshaw.
The knife has one small scratch near the blade tip where the blade rubbed the liner. The box shows some edge wear, particularly on the box ends. A beautiful and very rare knife that would be outstanding in any collection.
